BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Department of Athletics has officially launched its "Together We Are Greater Birmingham" campaign for the 2016-17 season.
UAB football is exactly one year away from its return to the field. The "Together We Are Greater Birmingham" campaign features a football trailer designed to engage fans and the Birmingham community for the return of the Blazers in 2017. The effort will also extend to include outdoor billboards, radio, digital, online and social media components.
The brand campaign includes iconic scenes from Birmingham, including the Vulcan, Railroad Park, Legion Field, Alabama Theater, the UAB Campus and more to further illustrate the connection between Birmingham and UAB.
"The entire Birmingham community has rallied around UAB and this campaign is a way to show our appreciation for what the city has worked so hard to accomplish," Director of Athletics Mark Ingram said. "UAB is a world class institution located in a world class city, and together we can achieve unprecedented levels of success. We are living proof of that."
Fans were first introduced to this concept with the "Together We Are" initiative by Blazer Boosters on August 1. The purpose of that initiative was to share the stories of key stakeholders with passionate messages direct from those involved with the revitalization efforts of UAB football.
Many sentiments were shared about the link between the success of UAB and Birmingham by business, community and campus leaders. The grassroots elements invited fans to share their stories of support for UAB Athletics.
"The support has been unwavering," head football coach Bill Clark said. "We have put shovels in the ground for our new Football Operations Center and it wouldn't have been possible without Birmingham believing in UAB and our vision of becoming a championship caliber program."
Last Monday's groundbreaking ceremony and Green and Gold Game, where a sellout crowd of nearly 5,000 fans greeted Birmingham's team, marked a historic day for Blazer Athletics. The "Together We Are Greater Birmingham" initiative will serve as a 365-day build up to UAB's return to Legion Field on September 2, 2017 against Alabama A&M.
Fans are encouraged to share their excitement for UAB Athletics during the 2016-17 season by using #TogetherWeAre and can expect to see content featuring all 18 Blazer sports programs.
