BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s soccer team takes to the road for the first time in 2016 when the Blazers travel to Louisville, Ky., to face Louisville Friday at 4:30 p.m. CST from Lynn Stadium.
UAB (1-1-0) enters the weekend coming off a 4-1 victory Sunday over UT Martin behind a pair of goals from senior forward Sarah Morris. Morris tallied the game-winning goal in the 13th minute and scored again in the 88th minute to register her first career multi-goal game.
The Blazers also received goals from Marin Carter and Jessica Do in the opening half to help UAB produce its first half with at least three goals since netting three in the second half at UTSA in 2014.
“Our team is heading in the right direction,” UAB head coach Harold Warren said. “It’s still early in the season and we are doing a lot of teaching. We don’t get much time to prepare, so the first five games are utilized to try new ideas and see what works.”
Overall, UAB has produced five goals on six assists and stands tied for the lead in Conference USA in assists. Junior midfielder Katherine Foster has delivered two assists and is also tied for the league lead.
Louisville (1-0-1) opened its season with a 1-1 draw Aug. 19 at Indiana before posting a 4-0 home shutout of Indiana State on Sunday. Forwards Kaela Dickerman and Allison Whitfield lead the Cardinals with four points apiece.
“Our match with Louisville will be very difficult,” Warren added. “They’re a well-coached and talented team that plays well at home. Being sharp and consistent against a team like Louisville will be extremely important for us.”
UAB owns a 7-3-0 record in the all-time series with Louisville that dates back to the 1996 season. The Cardinals, however, picked up a 1-0 victory last season over the Blazers at West Campus Field.
In addition to its record against Louisville, UAB has won its last three road openers. The Blazers have not lost their first road game of the season since dropping a 2-1 decision at Oregon State to open the 2012 season.
