BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - With the Green and Gold game just seven days away, UABsports.com will count down seven things fans should know about the Blazer football team leading up to the game.
NO. 7 - THE QUARTERBACKS:
QBs: A.J. Erdely, Tyler Johnston, John Jacobs, Jeremy Joseph, Michael Turner
A.J. Erdely is coming off a very solid scrimmage on Saturday at Legion Field. The Georgia native seems to have command of the up-tempo offense Coach Clark and Offensive Coordinator Les Koenning are running.
Erdely, at 6-foot-4, 220 lbs, has also shown the ability to tuck the ball and run when needed. His running ability was eveident last Saturday when he had roughly 25 yards rushing, including a 10-yard touchdown.
Youngster Tyler Johnston has also shown flashes throughout camp as he works his way back from last year's elbow injury. The coaching staff has been precautious with him while increasing his reps and variations of throws as camp has progressed.
Fans should expect Erdely and Johnston to be the starting quarterbacks at next Monday's Green and Gold game, with John Jacobs, Jeremy Joseph and Michael Turner also getting reps as the game goes along.
The lefty Jacobs has demonstrated the ability to stand in the pocket to deliver the ball, while Joseph at 6-foot-7 and Turner at 6-foot-3 rely on their size and athleticism to make plays.
The Green and Gold game is scheduled for Monday, August 29, at BBVA Compass Field with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
The Blazers will also host a groundbreaking ceremony that morning at 9 a.m. for the Football Operations Center and Legacy Pavilion, and Blazer Fan Fest at 5 p.m. Click here for complete information on the day's events.
Tickets for the Green and Gold game are $5 for adults (18 and older) and $3 for youth (17 and under). Fans can pre-purchase tickets by calling 205-975-UAB1 or by visiting the ticket office located at Bartow Arena.
