BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB baseball team welcomes Samford to Young Memorial Field Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for a midweek tilt against the crosstown rivals.
The Blazers look to avenge their early-season loss to the Bulldogs, falling 13-2 in a rain-shortened game on the Samford campus. Left-hander Adam Lamar (3-3, 2.80 ERA) is set to start for the Green and Gold, while Samford will counter with right-hander Connor Radcliff (2-3, 8.10 ERA).
UAB is coming off a tough 11-day road trip, picking up wins over Old Dominion and Ohio State over the eight-game stretch. The offense looks to freshmen Carter Pharis and Brewer Hicklen to carry over their hot streaks from league play into the matchup. In C-USA action, Pharis is hitting .318 with a team-best 16 RBIs while Hicklen is batting .315 with a team-high 29 hit in 92 at-bats. The two newcomers have a combined 16 extra-base hits and have competed in all 24 league games this season.
Samford is coming off a tough weekend at home, dropping three games to Southern Conference foe ETSU. Alex Lee boasts a 15-game hitting streak, dating all the way back to April 12 in a home contest against Alabama State. Since then, the Bulldogs' first baseman is batting .383 with 19 RBI and 12 runs scored.
UAB wraps up its home schedule beginning Friday when FIU visits Birmingham for a three-game Conference USA series set. Friday's game is set for 6:30 p.m. and Saturday's first pitch is at 2 p.m. Sunday's first pitch is 1 p.m. with senior day ceremonies preceding.
