Blazers 14-Over Following First Round at NCAA National Championship

EUGENE, Ore. - Will Cannon leads the Blazers at one-over at the 2016 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship at the Eugene Country Club. The senior shot a 71 while the team is 14 over par after 18 holes.
Cannon parred a team-best 13 holes and birdied two, while fellow senior Martin Rohwer posted three birdies.
Despite being tied with Auburn at 27th, UAB is just 12 shots off the lead. Arkansas and TCU lead the field but both landed at two-over as no team is under par after the first day.
Round two begins Saturday at 10 a.m. CDT with Stanford, Texas and Southern California leading off. The Blazers tee off at 3:37 p.m. CDT.

Thoughts on the round
"The team shot 14-over today. We were playing nicely after nine holes, but we finished badly coming in. That's a little disappointing, and a bitter pill to swallow, but it can happen out there. The golf course is excellent, it is tough and you have got to hit good shots. Sadly, on the back nine, we didn't hit enough good shot and had too many bad ones."
On Will Cannon's round
"Will Cannon shot one-over par. Good score and steady playing. Will played in the Pacific Coast Amateur at this golf course last summer, so I definitely think that helped him in terms of knowing exactly what to expect."
On Lee Hodges' round
"Lee Hodges shot two-over par. I walked with him today. He probably played better than that, but he kind of had one of those rounds where he didn't get a whole lot ahead of it. Regardless, two-over is nothing disgraceful."
On Taylor Eyster, John Hayden and Martin Rohwer
"Taylor Eyster shot four-over. He had a couple of tough holes coming in. John Hayden shot seven-over. He was seven-over after five or six holes, so he played his back nine really well. Poor Martin Rohwer just had one of those days to forget. His last 10 holes were a bit of a nightmare, but if you're going to have a bad round you probably want to have it in your first round so you have time to recover from it. The nail is probably already in your coffin in the third round."
On going into round two
"The boys are busy practicing now. We're just trying to get ready for tomorrow. We've played the course one, and now, hopefully, the guys know what to expect. We just have to play a bit better tomorrow. We have to be a bit more ruthless than what we were today. It's tough right now, but hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow."
