Blazers Baseball Visits Buckeye State for Midweek Set

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Blazers continue their 11-day, three-city road trip Tuesday and Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio as they take on Ohio State in a non-conference set.
UAB goes into the two-game series with one win under its belt after visiting Old Dominion. The 6-3 victory in Norfolk put the Green and Gold in a tie for sixth in the Conference USA standings, sharing its 10-11 record with Old Dominion and Western Kentucky.
Both nights’ games begin at 5:35 p.m. Left-hander Stephen Baggett (0-2, 5.22 ERA) has been announced as Tuesday’s starter, while Wednesday’s has yet to be decided. Baggett is searching for his first win of the season in three starts. The senior threw three scoreless innings of relief Saturday against Old Dominion, allowing just one hit. His last start came April 12 at Alabama.
Freshman Jared Nixon continued his solid play against the Monarchs, totaling five hits among the three games. The outfielder/designated hitter drove in a couple of runs and raised his average to .281 for the season. In C-USA play, Nixon is batting .283 and is a team-best 4-for-4 in stolen bases.
The Buckeyes come into the series after sweeping Purdue on the road. They currently sit at 28-14-1 with an 8-7 mark in the Big 10. Right-hander Ryan Feltner (1-2, 3.52 ERA) is scheduled to start Tuesday’s game, and left-hander Daulton Mosbarger (1-0, 1.53 ERA) will pitch the finale.
Nick Sergakis leads the Buckeyes’ lineup with a .366 average with a team-high 59 hits. Despite collecting just two hits against the Boilermakers over the weekend, the senior infielder is slugging .615 and has driven in 36 runs.
