UAB Student-Athletes Earn Degrees

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB will have 43 student-athletes representing 13 programs among those who will earn their degrees Saturday as part of commencement ceremonies on the Birmingham campus.
"We are so proud of our student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom and in competition," UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram said. "These young men and women have put forth tremendous effort and exhibited great dedication as representatives of UAB. We are excited to see so many of them earn a college degree from this world-class institution."
Blazer football leads the way with nine graduates, including Colin Anderson (accounting), Bashr Coles (communication management), Trey Grissett (management), Maudrecus Humphrey (communication management), Tyler Long (industrial distribution), Tyler Peppers (kinesiology), Dominic Sylvester (accounting and information systems), Shalin Waterford (nuclear medicine) and Diaheem Watkins (criminal justice).
The baseball team features the second-most graduates of any UAB program, as Jacob Armstrong (psychology), Justin Kemp (psychology), Dylan Munger (criminal justice), Jeff Schalk (communication management), Evan Peterson (marketing) and Esteban Tresgallo (biology) will receive their degrees.
Women's basketball and men's and women's soccer each have four graduates this semester. Chelsee Black (communication management), Khoria Newman (communication management), Dy'man Webb (psychology) and Brittany Winborne (psychology) from women's basketball will earn their degrees Saturday. Alanna Dineen (nursing), Paige Hanks (early childhood education, elementary education), Angelica Jimenez (public health -- environmental health services) and Kasey Johnson (nursing) represent women's soccer, while Karl Chester (art), Darion Copeland (management), Diego Navarrete (economics) and Hunter Weber (biology) competed on the pitch for men's soccer last fall.
Tori Brown (psychology & public health), Margaret Lueck (nursing) and Kelly Ramey (psychology) are graduating members of the rifle team, and Autumnn Burnett (kinesiology), Hannah Coffin (biology) and Breona Humphrey (communication management) represent Blazer track and field.
The men's and women's tennis programs combine for four graduates in Amy Lowther (biology), Mitchell Martell (psychology), Luiz Pinto (marketing) and Elaine Simon (biology). Golfers Will Cannon (finance) and Martin Rohwer (finance) as well as volleyball student-athletes Sydney Nelson (communication studies) and Emma Schroer (Spanish) will participate in Saturday's commencement exercises.
Robert Brown (communication management) and Kelly Britt (nursing) are the lone graduates representing men's basketball and softball, respectively.
"Today is a great day for our student-athletes and for UAB," Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services Fernandez West said. "It represents the culmination of years of hard work and dreams fulfilled. The experiences and education that our student-athletes received have prepared them for promising lives and careers head. We wish them all the best that life has to offer."
Twenty-one of the 43 Blazers scheduled to graduate on Saturday were selected to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, which is awarded to individuals who maintain a 3.0 GPA or better.
