BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced the 2016-2017 Executive Board and team representatives at last Monday’s meeting. Six student-athletes from different sports will hold various positions.
UAB SAAC is a group committed to providing a forum for student-athletes to express ideas, concerns and opinions relating to NCAA and Conference USA legislation as well as other issues relating to their well-being as student-athletes.
UAB’s Executive Board is responsible for setting a positive example of our student-athletes on campus. Its goal is to broadcast information to team members for all UAB sports, serve as leaders within the Athletic Department, and be a presence within the community. This academic year alone, UAB student-athletes have dedicated nearly 3,000 hours of service to the Birmingham community under the coordination or the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The 2016-2017 UAB SAAC Executive Board is made up of the following student-athletes:
President: Nick Norton, Men’s Basketball (Second Term)
Vice President: Erik Henze Men’s Soccer
Division I and C-USA SAAC REP: Catherine Ragon, Women’s Tennis (Third Term)
Board Member: Avei Logoleo, Beach Volleyball (Second Term)
Board Member: Jordan Petty, Football
Board Member: Hannah Coffin, Cross Country
“I am beyond thrilled to have this group of stellar student-athletes as UAB SAAC’s Executive Board for the 2016-2017 school year,” SAAC coordinator Caitlin Callaghan said. “The veteran leadership coupled with strong first-time executive members is a perfect combination for our core characteristics to thrive: leadership, involvement and service. Each member has carried out these values throughout his or her tenure at UAB and inspired others to do so as well. It is very exciting to think about what UAB SAAC will accomplish with this group leading our program next year.”
The Executive Board will use the summer to begin planning goals, meetings and programming for the upcoming academic year.
