UAB Beach Volleyball Opens College of Charleston Duals, 1-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UAB beach volleyball team split Saturday’s doubleheader to open the College of Charleston Duals, 1-1.
No. 1 ranked Pepperdine (8-0) swept the Blazers (3-6) in straight sets to cap a 5-0 victory in UAB’s first contest of the tournament.
UAB bounced back with a close contest against UNC-Wilmington (0-1) as the Blazers edged out the Seahawks, 3-2.
Sara Rishell and Chelsi Carter opened the match with a 21-12, 21-17 victory over Bella Borgiotti and Katie McCullough at the No. 1 position. UNC-Wilmington answered back at the No. 2 position as Kristen Powell and Nicole Lott topped Amber Treace and Zahria Richard, 21-14, 21-13, to even the contest.
At the No. 3 position, Maddy Kline and Ashleigh Crutcher topped Michaela Reesor and Avery Hoven, 21-10, 21-18, 15-9, to put the Seahawks up 2-1; but Avei Logoleo and Tressa Buckland defeated Sarah Kelly and Halle Hunt at the No. 4 position, 21-18, 21-17, 15-8, to even the match back up at 2-all.
Gabbi Moreno and Emily Martinez clinched the 3-2 UAB victory with a 21-19, 21-19, 15-9 victory over Sydney Alvis and Courtney Mullinax at the No. 5 position.
UAB closes the College of Charleston Duals on Sunday with matches against College of Charleston at 9 a.m. CT before taking on Lincoln Memorial at 11 a.m. CT.
