UAB Beach Volleyball Sweeps Sunday Doubleheader

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UAB beach volleyball team swept the final day of competition at the College of Charleston Duals with a 4-1 victory over the host Cougars before sweeping Lincoln Memorial, 5-0, Sunday.
UAB (5-6) opened Sunday’s doubleheader with a 4-1 victory over College of Charleston (5-4). Sara Rishell and Chelsi Carter earned a victory over Melissa Morello and Kayla Tronick, 21-18, 18-21, 15-21, at the No. 1 position.
The Cougars answered when Katja Ehlers and Krissy Mummey defeated Amber Treace and Zahria Richard, 21-23, 21-11, 15-4 at the No. 2 position. The Blazers bounced back at the No. 3 position as Michaela Reesor and Avery Hoven defeated McKala Rhodes and Maddie Hills, 22-20, 21-17.
UAB completed the 4-1 victory after Avei Logoleo and Tressa Buckland defeated Kennedy Madison and Taylor Foley, 21-17, 14-21, 15-8 at the No. 4 position, and Gabbi Moreno and Emily Martinez defeated Devon Rachel and Allison Beckman, 21-12, 23-21 at the No. 5 position.
The Blazers closed the College of Charleston Duals sweeping Lincoln Memorial, 5-0.
Rishell and Carter opened the contest with a 21-12, 21-15 victory over Abby Cash and Brooke Fleeman at the No. 1 position. Treace and Richard earned their first victory as a pair with a 21-14, 21-18 win at the No. 2 position over Bristol Snider and Jamie Jehne.
Reesor and Hoven earned a 21-11, 21-15 victory at the No. 3 position over Jordan Green and Fernanda Miaci. Moreno and Martinez defeated Samantha Cash and Erica Whiteaker at the No. 4 position, 23-25, 21-14, 15-11, to improve to 9-2 on the year.
Logoleo and Buckland completed the sweep after Lincoln Memorial (0-3) forfeited at the No. 5 position.
The Blazers return to South Carolina next weekend for the South Carolina Duals II. UAB will face Carson Newman, the host Gamecocks, TCU and Jacksonville over the two-day tournament.
