UAB Continues Homestand Saturday with Think Pink Matchup

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s basketball team continues its home stretch as it welcomes Louisiana Tech to Bartow Arena on Saturday as the host the Lady Techsters for the Think Pink game. The Blazers are slated to tip at 2 p.m.
The Blazers are partnering with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Research in Alabama.
The BCRFA will be selling t-shirts at the game to raise money for breast cancer research, as well as accept donations from people wanting to help. T-shirts are $15 for a short sleeves and $20 for long sleeves. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
UAB (11-10, 5-7) is coming off a gutsy 53-49 win over Southern Miss on Thursday night. In the win, Chelsee Black became UAB’s 19th all-time leading scorer, as she poured in 19 points on the night. Brittany Winborne dominated the glass reeling in 16 rebounds, while holding the leagues top rebounder to nine boards
The seniors showed their veteran savvy and joining them was Bianca Dufelmeier who chipped in seven points while dishing out a game-best four assists and securing eight boards.
The Blazers bounced back from an 18-3 run to complete the comeback in thanks to their defensive efforts. In thanks to its showing on the glass, UAB outscored Southern Miss 20-7 in second chance opportunities.
Winborne’s dominating performance this season is showing throughout the nation. She ranks 18th in rebounds per contest (10.4), 13th in offensive boards (4.0) per game and 28th in double-doubles (11) earned this season.
Meanwhile Deanna Kuzmanic is going toe-to-toe with the country’s freshmen. She ranks fourth in triples made per game (2.7) and 14th in her percentage from beyond the arc, 38.3 percent.
Louisiana Tech (12-10, 7-4) is coming off a 68-57 loss at Middle Tennessee. The Lady Techsters are led by Brandi Wingate, who paces the LA Tech attack with 17.6 points a night. Brooke Pumroy and Ashley Santos both tally double digits as they chip in 11.1 and 10.0 points per contest, respectively.
Wingate is shooting just being Winborne, as she ranks second in the league at 55.5 percent from the floor. Wingate’s 17.7 points a showing ranks fourth in C-USA.
The Blazers and Lady Techsters are meeting for just the fourth time in program history. Last year, UAB and LA Tech split a pair of games, both earning road victories. The Blazers got the final edge as they took down the Lady Techsters, 63-54, in Ruston.
