Dear Blazer Nation,
As you know, we are nearing the end of a fantastic basketball season. The women continue to improve significantly, and our men are having a record-setting year. We thank you for your support; attendance has improved and is noticed by our teams. We have come close to selling out Bartow Arena this season, and I can assure you the support we show our teams makes a difference on the court.
UAB will play host to both the Men’s and Women’s C-USA Basketball Championships in Birmingham at Legacy Arena and Bartow again this year. We hope that you will make it a priority to be a part of these special events. If you are interested in C-USA Basketball Championship tickets, we encourage you to call 205-975-UAB1 to gain access to the best seats available.
Last week, we took additional positive steps in restoring the UAB Football program. First, we signed 19 more student-athletes who are excited to be a part of the Blazer Family. The signing class is considered to be one of the best in C-USA. These young men understand our desire to be competitive when we step back on the field in 2017. We also received what is referred to as Phase 1 and 2 approval of a 4-Phase process from the Board of Trustees to move forward in the design of our Football Operations Building. We have selected an architect, who our team meets with weekly, and we continue to raise the funds needed for the project. It is moving very quickly, and has required an all hands on-deck approach from everyone involved.
UAB Softball has their first game of the season this week when they play at the University of South Alabama today, and Baseball leads the season off on Feb. 19 when they play Arkansas State at Regions Field. Coaches Townsend and Shoop are looking forward to their seasons, and I know would join me in welcoming you out to the ballpark this season to watch their teams compete.
The Men’s and Women’s C-USA Basketball Championships are not the only post season events on our schedule. UAB will host the C-USA Indoor Track Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex on Feb. 24 and 25. Please take time to watch some of the nation’s fastest athletes and cheer on the Blazers.
Finally, we’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we work hard to improve our services at Bartow Arena and other venues. Our administrative team has done an outstanding job of listening to our customers and putting a plan together to meet our fans’ needs and interests. These things are important to us because we want everyone’s experience to be the best that it can be when visiting our campus and cheering for our teams. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future.
