Dear Blazer Nation,
Everyone inside Blazer Athletics would like to extend warm holiday wishes to you and your family. This time of year provides all of us the opportunity to give thanks for our many blessings. In this season of giving, the UAB Department of Athletics and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold a canned food drive December 3-10, which starts this Saturday for the Auburn game. Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable canned food items which can be dropped off outside the Bartow Arena main entrance on Saturday and at the UAB Athletics Ticket Office throughout the week. All canned goods will be donated directly to our charity partner – The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.
It’s almost the end of the fall semester and our students have been working hard in the classroom. They know that while trophies are coveted in athletics, none are more valuable than the one they will hoist above their heads when walking across the stage at graduation. We are so appreciative to our Blazer Boosters whose gifts support the scholarship needs of our fine students-athletes. Those interested in making end of year gifts can do so by calling (205) 996-9969 or at www.blazerboosters.com.
Men’s and Women’s Basketball has begun. The women’s team is currently 3-2 and our men’s team is currently 4-3. While we hope you can attend all of our home games, we want to be sure that you know that our ladies will have a marquee matchup with No. 8 Florida State at Bartow Arena on Saturday, December 10. Freshman Miyah Barnes has been selected as the C-USA Freshman of the Week twice this season. Our men’s team will be playing Auburn tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. We anticipate a sold out crowd and it will be the largest home attendance in almost 10 years! We’d like to thank all of our Blazer fans in advance for being here to support our teams.
UAB Football officially wrapped up its 2016 season and the staff is working hard to add more Blazers to the roster. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our Recruiting Celebration on National Signing Day, February 1, 2017…more details to come! Construction at the Football Operations Center is moving right along and is on time. Construction has also begun on the Softball Stadium project at Mary Bowers Field. Be sure to drive by and take a look next time you’re on campus.
UAB launched a mobile app called UAB Gameday. Download it here and be sure to accept the “Push Notifications” and “locators” to receive updates and special offers. This is another step we’re taking to improve our fan experience.
We look forward to seeing you soon…Go Blazers!
