IRVING, Texas – UAB sophomores Marin Carter, Jessica Do and Kristin Telford were each selected to the InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Carter was tabbed to the first team while Do and Telford both earned a spot on the second team. The trio ties the school record for the most C-USA All-Academic selections in a single season. Former Blazers Laura McCalla, Piscale Pinard and Allison Young earned the distinction in 2010.
An English major with a 4.00 grade point average, Carter started all 15 games in which she appeared and logged a total of 1,259 minutes. The Little Rock, Ark., native finished the season with four points on one goal and two assists from her center midfielder position.
Do owns a 3.92 grade point average in health care management and lands on the C-USA All-Academic Team for the first time in her career. She stood third on the team in points with nine while tying for first with four goals. The Warner Robbins, Ga., native turned in her first career multi-goal game when she tallied two at Middle Tennessee.
A mainstay on the UAB back line, Telford started all 10 games she played and helped the UAB defense allow 13 fewer goals than in 2015. In addition, the Blazers featured a 1.62 goals against average this season as compared to 2.55 a year ago. Telford, a native of Lilburn, Ga., has a 4.00 GPA in biomedical sciences.
“It’s always great to see the hard work of our student-athletes rewarded,” UAB head coach Harold Warren said. “These three young ladies are very focused on their academics and I’m very proud of them and their All-Conference USA accomplishment.”
