UAB Falls to Marshall on Senior Day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team dropped its final match of the season, 3-1, against Marshall Saturday at Bartow Arena.
Erika Zembyla and Haley Jared were the one-two punch for the Blazers’ offense in the match. Zembyla posted a team-high 13 kills and Jared was one step behind her with 12. Petra Silic recorded 10 kills of her own and posted a team-high .471 attack percentage and two blocks.
The Blazers trailed half-way throughout the first set until they tied the score at 12 and never gave the lead up again as they captured the 25-21 win. The Thundering Herd answered in the second set and won 25-20.
UAB struggled in the third set and fell behind early, 10-0. They couldn’t get anything started and dropped the set 25-10. Marshall also jumped ahead early in the final set and cruised to a 25-18 win.
Cassie Weaver led the Thundering Herd offensively with 16 kills for a .262 attack percentage. Defensively, Ally Kiekover led the match with eight kills and Allie Kellerman recorded 16 digs in the match.
Today was the Blazers’ Senior Day and the team said goodbye to Amber Treace, Kassidy Sullivan and Caitlin Conner.
