UAB Volleyball Drops Tough Match with North Texas

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team opened weekend play against North Texas and fell to the Mean Green in four sets, 3-1 (16-25, 25-18, 15-25, 13-25), at Bartow Arena.
UAB (8-12, 1-4) hit .220 in the match with 46 kills and five total team blocks. Haley Jared recorded a team-high 10 kills and ranked third on the squad with a .217 attack percentage. Victoria Young paced the offense with a .333 mark and Amber Treace posted a .222 percentage.
North Texas (8-10, 2-1) was led by Alexis Wright who struck a match-high 17 kills for an impressive .652 attack percentage. Holly Milam led the match with five total blocks and Amy Henard tallied 14 digs.
UAB started slowly, falling into a 20-12 hole in the first set, and never fully recovered. UAB tried to rally but North Texas would match every point with one of its own as the Mean Green took the first set, 25-16.
The Blazers jumped to an early 8-3 lead in the second set and continued to cruise easily throughout. North Texas made a run in the middle of the set but it was not enough to top UAB as the Blazers won, 25-18.
The Mean Green came out of the break on fire and took a 20-11 lead in the third set. UAB scored four more points but North Texas was too strong and took control with a 25-15 win.
North Texas dominated the fourth set by jumping to an early 5-0 lead and continued to cruise throughout. UAB never got any closer than seven points as the Mean Green went on to win the final set, 25-13.
The Blazers return to the floor on Sunday when they host Louisiana Tech at Bartow Arena at 1 p.m.
