GREENWOOD, Ind. – Henrique Sposito of the UAB men’s soccer team was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team on Thursday afternoon. The senior midfielder is one of 11 players named to the District 4 team.
The Capital One Academic All-District Teams are voted on by the members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and recognize student-athletes who excel on their field of competition and in the classroom.
Sposito is the first Blazer to be honored since Ian Michalak earned the distinction in back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014.
The Brazilian has started 15 games this year and is the team-leader in goals (three), assists (one), points (seven), and game-winning goals (two).
Sposito shined when the lights were brightest for the Blazers at home with a pair of goals in an upset win over No. 15 Kentucky. His other goal this season was a game-winner versus Rhode Island and he added an assist in the Green & Gold’s 3-0 victory over Marshall on September 17. That win was the 100th Conference USA win in school history, as UAB became the first program to reach that mark.
Off the field, Sposito has been named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll each of the last three seasons and earned the C-USA Academic Medal in 2015. He owns the highest GPA on the team with a 3.821 in Sociology.
The All-District honorees that were chosen advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected from the nine districts.
