BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s soccer team plays its final two matches of the regular season this weekend when the Blazers visit Southern Miss Friday at 3 p.m. and Louisiana Tech Sunday at 1 p.m.
“Our mindset going into the last two matches is to win,” UAB head coach Harold Warren said. “We know that both games will be tough, but we have the talent to get the job done, but we need to execute at a high level against both teams to be successful. I believe this is one of the toughest road trips in the conference, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
UAB opens play coming off a weekend that saw freshman Megan Hudgens score her third goal of the season when she connected in the 83rd minute Sunday against UTSA. The Alpharetta, Ga., native is tied for first on the team with nine points on three goals and three assists.
Sophomore midfielder Jessica Do also owns nine points on a team-leading four goals to go along with one assist. Junior Rachel Green stands first on the team and is tied for sixth in Conference USA with five assists.
Blazer keeper Kelsey Daugherty has logged every minute this season and ranks fourth in the league with 74 saves.
Southern Miss dropped road matches last weekend at Old Dominion and Charlotte to fall to 1-5-1 in Conference USA play. The Golden Eagles, however, are 5-2-1 at home and are unbeaten in their last three matches at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
Junior Katie Richmond paces the Southern Miss offense with 10 points on four goals and two assists, while keeper Brittany Taylor ranks third in Conference USA with a 0.89 goals against average.
UAB is 11-5-1 all-time against Southern Miss and 6-2-1 in games played in Hattiesburg.
Louisiana Tech faces Middle Tennessee Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming the Blazers to the Lady Techster Soccer Complex. The Bulldogs split road matches at Charlotte and Old Dominion last season and own an 11-4-1 overall record and a 3-3-0 mark in league play.
Senior forward Kathryn Sloan leads Louisiana Tech and ranks third in Conference USA with 20 points on seven goals and six assists. Keeper Kylee Seto has registered five shutouts and features a 1.17 goals against average.
“We’ve been focusing on defending well as a unit and scoring goals this week in our training sessions,” Warren added. “During this part of the season, you’re not reinventing the wheel, but we need to be much better in both of the aforementioned areas.”
