UAB Falls to No. 25 Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The UAB volleyball team fell to No. 25 Western Kentucky, 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 12-25, 10-25), at E.A. Diddle Arena on Friday night.
Kenley Adams led the Blazer offense with 10 kills and tied for a team-high attack percentage with a .500 mark. Amber Treace was the other Blazer that posted a .500 hitting percentage and tallied a team-high 29 assists.
Petra Silic added eight kills in the match while Erika Zembyla struck seven. Silic led the defensive effort with five total blocks and the team recorded eight as a whole.
UAB came ready to play in the first set as they jumped to an early 5-0 lead. A late rally by Western Kentucky pulled it within five points but it wasn’t enough as the Blazers grasped the 25-20 win.
WKU turned the tables in the second set and was the team that pulled ahead early, 6-0. UAB fought back and rallied to tie the set 17-17 but the Hilltoppers were too strong and clinched the 25-19 victory.
After the break, WKU came out swinging and dominated the third set. The Blazers couldn’t string together consecutive points and the Hilltoppers cruised to a 25-12 win.
The score was close at the beginning of the fourth set until a four-point swing in WKU’s favor gave it a 12-8 lead. The Blazers fought valiantly at the end of the set but came up short 25-20.
Alyssa Cavanaugh struck a match-high 17 kills for a .517 attack percentage while Rachel Anderson recorded 16 kills for a match-high .609 mark.
The Blazers travel to Houston, Texas to face Rice on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse.
