BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s soccer team puts the finishing touches on its 2016 home schedule this weekend when the Blazers host North Texas Friday at 7 p.m. and UTSA Sunday at 1 p.m. from BBVA Compass Field.
UAB will celebrate Senior Night on Friday at the conclusion of the game and recognize forward Sarah Morris. Morris has played in 52 career games and will graduate in December with a degree in political science.
“We have a tough couple of matches coming up this weekend,” UAB head coach Harold Warren said. “I expect our team to come out each game and play hard, smart and execute to the best of our ability. It’s our last weekend at home, so we must take advantage of it.”
UAB (4-8-1, 1-4-1 C-USA) enters play unbeaten in five of its last six home games, which includes a 1-0 victory over UTEP Sept. 25 in double overtime. Additionally, Blazer keeper Kelsey Daugherty have allowed only three goals during that home stretch and now ranks second in Conference USA with 64 saves.
Offensively, sophomore midfielder Jessica Do leads UAB with nine points on four goals and one assists. Junior Rachel Green has delivered a team-best five assists and stands tied for fourth in the league. Sophomore Caroline Kehrer and freshman Megan Hudgens each have seven points for UAB.
North Texas (9-4-1, 4-1-0 C-USA) saw its four-match winning streak snapped Sunday following a 3-0 loss at UTSA. Despite the loss, the Mean Green open the weekend in second place in the league standings with 12 points.
Mean Green senior forward Rachel Holden is third in C-USA with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. Not far behind, midfielder Marchelle Davis has 14 points on five goals and four assists. Keeper Brooke Bradley has surrendered nine goals and owns a 0.90 goals against average.
UTSA (6-8-0, 2-3-0 C-USA) snapped a three-game losing streak Sunday with a 3-0 home victory over North Texas. The Roadrunners are 2-6-0 away from home and have lost six consecutive road games heading into their match Friday at UTEP.
Junior defender Kaja Skare has scored a team-high seven goals to go along with two assists for a total of 16 points. Sophomore keeper Michelle Cole has played 11 games in net and features a 2.47 goals against average in just under 700 minutes.
