KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UAB men’s soccer team was named a winner of the 2015-16 NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2015-16 academic year. The Blazers finished the year with a 3.19 GPA.
“I am very pleased to see our team recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom,” said UAB head coach Mike Getman. “This is a great group of young men who have been working hard both on and off the field.”
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
The UAB’s women’s soccer team also received the honor, making the Blazers one of 223 schools to receive honors for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Getman’s squad is nearing the end of the regular season and is currently 6-4-3 overall and second in Conference USA with a 2-1-1 conference record.
