Dear Blazer Nation,
Last month we celebrated the groundbreaking of our new Football Operations Center. Progress is going very well and we are on schedule to be completed and in the building next summer as planned. Please take time to drive past the site on the corner of 6th Avenue and 11th Street South next time you're on campus.
Our Fall sports are well into their seasons and are playing hard. The men's soccer team recorded their 100th league victory as members of C-USA when they played Marshall on September 17th - the most in conference history. Led by Mike Getman in his 25th season, the Blazers are coming off a 2-1 victory over No. 15 Kentucky and are currently having a great season at 6-3-3 overall.
Be sure to stop by Bartow Arena to support the volleyball team and come out to BBVA Compass Field to watch the men's and women's soccer teams. Along with that, the men's and women's golf teams are playing very well, and congratulations to Christian Coetzee of the men's tennis team for being named the C-USA Male Tennis Player of the Month for September.
Homecoming at UAB starts this week! Hoops on the Green is this Thursday, October 13th at 7 p.m., so please join us on the Campus Green to celebrate the official start of UAB Basketball. This is a great family event that everyone can enjoy. Coaches Randy Norton and Robert Ehsan will be there with their teams as they compete in 3-point and dunk contests, along with other fun skits and videos. We are less than a month away from the first game, so make sure that you have your season tickets. This is going to be another big year!
The following week, October 20th, the football team will play its second Green and Gold game at BBVA Compass Field at 7 p.m. We had nearly 5,000 fans at the last game, and those of you who were there will be impressed with the progress our team is making. Season tickets for the 2017 season are now on sale and its never too early to secure your spot. We want big crowds for every game next year and beyond, and we need everyone to join us. We are Birmingham's teams, so let's show our pride together.
Baseball and softball have begun their fall practice seasons. Coaches Brian Shoop and Marla Townsend are excited about their teams and are looking forward to Spring already. Mary Bowers Field is about to get a huge renovation when we begin the stadium seating project next month. This has been fully funded and approved, and is scheduled to be complete by the start of our softball season in February. This is another commitment we've made to our fans and student-athletes to provide them a world-class experience here at UAB.
We look forward to seeing you soon...Go Blazers!!
Warm Regards,
Mark T. Ingram
