Blazers Travel to Lipscomb

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team begins a stretch of four road games in its final five contests with a game at Lipscomb on Tuesday night. The Blazers have won five of their last seven games and sport a 6-3-3 overall record. Lipscomb sits at 6-5-1.
Each of these teams was ranked in last week's edition of the NSCAA Southeast Regional Rankings. UAB was pegged eighth while the Bison rounded out the group in 10th. This is the fourth-ever meeting between these two schools with the previous three games all going the way of the Blazers.

LAST TIME OUT
UAB was powered by Henrique Sposito's two goals to a 2-1 win over No. 15 Kentucky. UAB improved its record to 6-3-3 overall and 2-1-1 in Conference USA play to move into second place in the league.
The Blazers opened the game at a torrid pace and were able to find the back of the net early because of it. Sposito's first goal came in the ninth minute when the Kentucky defense struggled to clear the ball. Sposito lined up a shot that was deflected by a UK defender on the way to the net and lofted over the goalkeeper's head to give UAB a 1-0 lead.
It would not be long until superb build-up play would pay off for the Green & Gold. Lars Willemse delivered a long cross into the box in the 20th minute. Philip Makinde headed the stray ball towards the net where Sposito was waiting to tack on his second of the game. The Blazers held a 2-0 lead at the break.
Kentucky would not go away quietly. The Wildcats were the beneficiaries of an own goal in the 66th minute but the UAB defense withstood the barrage of opportunities and particularly looked strong against the four corner kicks for Kentucky during the waning minutes.
BLAZERS SECOND IN C-USA
The Blazers victory against Kentucky moved them into second place in Conference USA. They have a 2-1-1 record in conference, good for seven points and only two behind No. 17 Charlotte for first place. UAB's next two games come against South Carolina (six points) and the 49ers, both on the road.
SCOUTING LIPSCOMB
The Bison went four games without a win and 322 minutes without a goal before a 2-1 comeback victory against USC Upstate this past Saturday. Lipscomb has been streaky on offense this season, but has flashed explosive play with a total of 18 goals. The Bison have allowed 15 goals on the season with six shots finding the back of the next over the last three games.
Logan Paynter leads Lipscomb in scoring. The redshirt sophomore was a Sun Belt First Team All-Conference selection a season ago with six goals. He has already topped that number this season with seven goals to go along with two assists and a team-high 16 points. Paynter's seven goals ranked 25th in the nation.
