Fourth Annual Student-Athlete Thank-A-Thon Is Underway

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The fourth annual student-athlete thank-a-thon is being held this week, January 19-22, in the Blazer Boosters office. Blazer student-athletes from every team will volunteer their time to call each 2015 Blazer Boosters member to personally thank them for providing the financial support necessary for them to compete in their sport while earning a first class education.
“We hope Blazer Boosters members enjoy receiving a genuine thank you from the student-athletes in which they support,” Associate Athletic Director for Development Brad Hardekopf said. “It is extremely rewarding for these Blazer student-athletes to show our donors how much their financial support means to them.”
The UAB Department of Athletics recently announced donations received during the 2015 calendar year exceeded $5 million, a record achievement during a giving year for Blazer Boosters. Generous donations from nearly 1,500 Blazer Boosters members in 2015 accounted for a membership increase of 36.4 percent over 2014. During this record setting year, annual scholarship contributions surpassed $1.3 million, while over $18 million was pledged toward the enhanced support of the football, bowling and rifle programs, including over $13 million in philanthropy.
Blazer Boosters are alumni and friends of UAB who recognize the value of the student-athlete experience. Donations to Blazer Boosters generate funding for student-athlete scholarships, capital projects and facility improvements, and the enhancement of sport specific operating budgets. Relative to the investment of 2015 Blazer Boosters members, UAB student-athletes averaged a 3.13 overall GPA while having 46 student-athletes earn a 4.0 during the 2015 fall term.
The 2016 giving year is underway and Blazer fans have an opportunity to Be the Difference in the lives of UAB student-athletes by becoming a 2016 Blazer Boosters member. A Blazer Boosters membership begins at $100 with payment plans available. Depending on your membership level, your 2016 Blazer Boosters membership will provide you benefits such as priority seating, hospitality access, parking, Gold Card, and invitations to private events.
