BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB's men's golf team will holds its home tournament, the 2015 Shoal Creek Invitational, hosted by Graeme McDowell, Monday and Tuesday at the Shoal Creek Country Club.
The 54-hole event, held at the par-72, 7,154-yard Jack Nicklaus designed layout, will once again feature some of the nation's top men's golf programs. Of the 12 teams competing, six finished among the top-50 in the nation in 2014-15 according to GolfStat's final rankings. Overall, nine of the 12 teams were ranked in the top-75.
South Carolina enters the tournament at No. 8, followed by Washington, who checked in at No. 20 in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. College of Charleston, GRU Augusta, Houston, Mississippi State and UAB enter the tournament receiving votes in the poll. Other teams in the tournament include defending champion North Florida, Ole Miss, Troy, West Virginia and Winthrop.
The Blazers finished third in last season's event with an even-par 864. Lee Hodges, a freshman at the time, was UAB's top finisher in a tie for third at 3-under, 213.
North Florida edged Alabama by three strokes to win the 2014 team title, and the Ospreys' Joey Petronio won the individual title after shooting a tournament record 11-under, 205.
UAB's lineup for the tournament includes seniors Martin Rohwer and Will Cannon, along with sophomores Taylor Eyster and Lee Hodges, and freshman Tim Harry. The Blazers will be paired with Washington and North Florida for the first two rounds of action.
Freshman John Hayden will compete as an individual for his second competition this season, while freshman Wells Hooper and junior Henry James will be making their first appearances of the season in individual play.
Monday's play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Teams will play 36 continuous holes, before closing the tournament Tuesday beginning with tee times at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available via GolfStat and can be accessed in the link above or by clicking here.
