Men's Golf Finishes Eighth at Inverness Intercollegiate

TOLEDO, Ohio - UAB's men's golf team rounded out play at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Tuesday with an eighth-place finish after firing a 302 in the final round at the Inverness Club.
Just eight strokes separated the sixth-place team to ninth-place team, as the Blazers finished off the 54-hole event at 46-over, 898 (305-291-302) for the tournament.
It was an up and down day for most of UAB's lineup, led by sophomore Taylor Eyster's 1-over, 72. The Birmingham, Ala. native made the turn at even-par after three bogeys and three birdies to start the round, before sinking a birdie on the 13th and bogeys on 16 and 17 to finish the tournament T-13th at 9-over, 222 (77-73-72).
Freshman Tim Harry completed his first collegiate event as part of the lineup with a top-30 finish, checking in T-26th at 12-over, 225 (75-73-77) for the tournament. After dropping to 7-over on the front nine, Harry recovered for two birdies and six pars in the final nine holes to secure a 6-over third round.
Lee Hodges, who recorded a career-best finish of T-2nd at Inverness last season, finished T-31st after a 7-over, 78 on Tuesday. Nine holes into the round at 3-over, Hodges birdied the 10th and 13th to get back to 1-over, but a triple bogey on the 14th, double bogey on the 17th and a bogey at the 18th pushed the sophomore to 13-over, 226 (73-75-78) for the tournament.
Seniors Martin Rohwer (80-74-75 = 229, +16) and Will Cannon (83-71-81 = 235, +22) rounded out UAB's field with finishes of T-40th and T-62nd, respectively.
California edged defending champion East Tennessee State by three strokes, claiming the team title with a 25-over, 877. Michigan State's Mitch Rutledge won the individual title with a 2-under, 211.
