BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Coming off a T-3rd to open the season last weekend in Kiawah Island, S.C., the UAB men's golf team looks to build on that success Monday and Tuesday at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio.
The event, hosted by Toledo, features five teams ranked in Golfweek's Top-50, including No. 46 Toledo, No. 6 Purdue, No. 44 Austin Peay, No. 8 Mercer and No. 14 Yale. Other teams in the field include California, defending champion East Tennessee State, Akron, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Kent State, Michigan and Ohio State.
The 54-hole event, held at the par-71, 7,300-yard Inverness Club, will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with 36 holes Monday and a tee time start of 8 a.m. with 18 holes on Tuesday.
UAB's lineup for the tournament includes seniors Martin Rohwer and Will Cannon, along with sophomores Taylor Eyster and Lee Hodges, and freshman Tim Harry. The Blazers will be paired with Miami (Ohio) and Purdue for the first two rounds of action.
The Green and Gold finished third in the event last season, led by Hodges' second-place finish, the best of his career thus far. UAB is coming off a tie for third at The Invitational Sept. 11-12.
Inverness Club was founded in 1903 and along with the University of Toledo served as host for the 2009 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Inverness has also hosted four U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens, two PGA Championships and one U.S. Amateur.
