UAB Men's Golf Finishes T-3rd at The Invitational

Final Results
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The UAB men's golf team turned in a 12-over, 300, to finish tied for third at The Invitational at the Ocean Course Saturday.
The Blazers entered Saturday morning's final round 10 strokes off the lead tied with Troy, and maintained that position, tying with Kentucky. All 12 teams finished over par, as UAB's 300 turned out to be one of the top scores on the day.
Sophomore Taylor Eyster carded the Blazers' best score of the day and the tournament, totaling an even par, 72, to finish at 3-over, 219 in a tie for sixth. Despite starting his round at 4-over through the front nine, the Birmingham, Ala. native got back on track in the final nine holes, carding birdies on the 13th and 17th and an eagle at the 16th.
Sophomore Lee Hodges bounced back from his second round on Friday, carding a 1-over, 73, in the final 18 holes to finish tied for 11th at 6-over, 222. Like Eyster, Hodges also finished strong after going as high as 4-over on the day. The Elkmont, Ala. native recorded par on his first six holes, before dropping a double bogey on the seventh and a bogey at the eighth.
A birdie on the ninth, and three consecutive birdies on holes 16-18 put him back to 1-under on the back nine and 1-over for the day.
Seniors Will Cannon and Martin Rohwer finished the season-opening tournament tied for 28th at 11-over, 227 overall. Cannon shot a 77 (+5) on Saturday, while Rohwer carded a 78 (+6).
Freshmen Tim Harry (78-74-78 = 230, T40th) and John Hayden (72-86-81 = 239, T69th) rounded out the UAB field competing in their first collegiate event.
Georgia Southern turned in a 2-over, 290 team score to claim the team title by four strokes over host College of Charleston. The Cougars' William Rainey fired a 1-under, 71, on Saturday to edge Georgia Southern's Cody O'Toole for the individual title.
UAB returns to the course Sept. 21-22 at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio.
