UAB Volleyball Falls to Troy in Five Sets, 3-2

TROY, Ala. – After dropping the first set to open the match, the UAB volleyball team (2-2) battled back to force a match-deciding set five, but the Trojans (2-2) claimed victory in the final set to secure the 3-2 win Tuesday night at the Trojan Arena.
The Trojans took an early 1-0 lead before UAB battled for victories in set two (25-20) and set four (27-25) to force a final set. Troy opened the final set with a quick lead before tallying a 15-6 win to claim the match.
Junior Gabby Deshotel recorded her second double-double of the season for UAB. Deshotel racked up 23 kills and 11 digs in the outing. The outside hitter is the first Blazer to rack up 20 or more kills in a match on the year.
Junior Amy Hunter added 12 kills to the UAB offense with a team-leading four blocks (one solo, three assists). Setter Amber Treace set up the Blazers with 40 assists while adding three kills.
Libero Emma Schroer led the UAB defense with 23 digs. Sophomore Haley Jared added 20 digs to the Blazers’ total.
Troy closed the match with a .205 clip while three Trojans garnered double-digit kills on the night.
The Blazers return to the court on Friday, Sept. 5 for UAB’s home opener in Bartow Arena. UAB will face FIU in Conference USA play to open the Blazer Classic tournament. Game time is set for 6 p.m. CT.
