UAB Men's Golf Recognized In Golfweek Preseason Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's golf team received national recognition in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll, garnering 23 votes, the Golf Coaches Association of America released Friday.
The Blazers, under the direction of head coach Alan Murray, are coming off a year in the national spotlight after their first ever NCAA Regional title at the Bremerton Regional. UAB went on to finish 19th at the NCAA Championship this past spring, led by former Blazer Paul Dunne's fifth-place result in the NCAA Championships.
UAB is one of two teams from Conference USA to appear in the preseason poll. The Blazers received 23 votes, while Charlotte earned three votes. Illinois begins the 2015-16 season as the top-ranked team in the country, while LSU, Texas, Florida State and USC rounded out the top five.
UAB returns four of the five players from last year's NCAA lineup, including All-C-USA Second Team honoree Will Cannon, C-USA All-Freshman Team honoree Taylor Eyster, All-C-USA First Team golfer Martin Rohwer and the 2014 C-USA Freshman of the Year Lee Hodges.
The Blazers will compete in five tournaments in the fall season, leading off with The Invitational at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. Sept. 11-12. The Green and Gold then trek to Toledo, Ohio, to take part in the Inverness Intercollegiate Sept. 21-22, before returning to Birmingham Sept. 28-29 for the Shoal Creek Invitational Hosted by Graeme McDowell.
UAB will close the fall slate with the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Oct. 5-6 in Birmingham, before a trip to Kauai, Hawaii to compete in the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational Nov. 2-4.
