ST. ANDREWS, Scotland -- After becoming the first amateur to lead The Open after 54 holes since 1927, Paul Dunne took one final walk in the worldwide spotlight Monday, capping what was an unforgettable week at The Old Course.
One of five amateurs to make the cut, Dunne finished the tournament tied for 30th at 6-under, 282 (69-69-66-78).
The Greystones, Ireland native was featured in the final pairing for the 144th Open alongside 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, who eventually went on to compete for the championship in a three-way playoff.
Two bogeys got Dunne started in his round Monday, before birdies on two of the next three holes sent him back to even par.
From there, he stayed at 12-under for the tournament in contention, before four bogeys and one double bogey on the back nine sent him to 6-over for the day and 6-under for the tournament.
