BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Former UAB men’s golfers Paul Dunne and Graeme McDowell will begin play at The 2015 Open Championship on Thursday at The Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland. Dunne earned individual medalist honors at the Woburn final qualifying to secure his second-consecutive trip to The Open Championship.
Dunne is one of nine amateurs to compete in this year’s major. He is coming off an impressive finish to his UAB career after placing fifth individually at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
The Greystones, Ireland native also won the Woburn qualifier last season and competed in his first major at The Open in 2014. In that appearance, Dunne just missed the cut by two strokes after finishing the first two rounds with a 148 (+4).
The two-time All-American and 2014 C-USA Golfer of the Year will be paired with Todd Hamilton and James Hahn. The group is set to tee off at 6:43 a.m. BST/12:43 a.m. CST.
Dunne joins former Blazer and PGA Tour player McDowell in the field. McDowell had his best finish at The Open in 2012, tying for fifth. He will tee off at 8:22 a.m. BST/2:22 a.m. CST with Webb Simpson and Oliver Schniederjans.
Live coverage of The 144th Open Championship will be available on theopen.com and beginning at 3:00 a.m. CST on ESPN3.
