Paul Dunne Qualifies For Second-Straight Open Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Former UAB men’s golfer Paul Dunne earned individual medalist honors at the Woburn final qualifying to secure his second consecutive trip to The Open Championship. Dunne will compete in The 144th Open held at St. Andrews from July 12-19.
The Greystones, Ireland native finished the two-round event with a 135 (-9) to top the 72-player field. Dunne was one of three players that advanced to The Open from the Woburn qualifier.
After posting a 70 (-2) in the first round, Dunne carded the lowest round of the qualifier with a 65 (-7) in the second 18 holes to earn the first place finish.
The Division I PING Honorable Mention All-America selection also won the Woburn qualifier last season and competed in his first major at The Open in 2014. In that appearance, Dunne just missed the cut by two strokes after finishing the first two rounds with a 148 (+4).
