UAB Announces Torrey Ward Legacy Scholarship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB Athletics is pleased to partner with the UAB National Alumni Society to raise funds for the Torrey Ward Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship is named for the former Blazer men's basketball player who passed away earlier this month. The money raised will go toward a UAB student-athlete who embodies Ward's spirit and leadership.
Ward, who was 36, passed away last month following a plane crash in Bloomington, Ill. Ward, who played basketball at UAB from 1996-2000, had coaching stops at Jacksonville State, Ole Miss and, most recently, Illinois State.
The Torrey Ward Legacy Scholarship seeks to honor Ward's integrity, character and great sense of humor. The goal of the scholarship is to provide an opportunity for a UAB student-athlete who embodies Ward's qualities of spirit and leadership.
