BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB baseball team fell to Old Dominion, 11-0, in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Young Memorial Field.
ODU (27-27, 13-17 C-USA) needed a win and Marshall loss, or two losses by the Thundering Herd and one by Charlotte. Marshall dropped the first game of its doubleheader, meaning the Monarchs' win over the Blazers (30-24, 15-15 C-USA) assured them a place in next week's C-USA Championship in Hattiesburg, Miss.
ODU scored in six consecutive innings from the second through seventh, as the league's 10 run-rule on getaway day came into play, forcing the game to end after seven frames.
Two Monarchs belted 2-run home runs and starter Jake Josephs allowed just one hit and no runs in the start.
UAB starter Johnny Lieske tossed 4.0 IP with six runs allowed, four earned, off seven hits. Ryan Ruggles worked 1.1 innings and gave up three runs off five hits, while Adam Lamar completed the work in the final 1.2 frames.
As a team the Blazers collected four hits with one each from Chase Davis, Griffin Gum, Mitch Williams and Sam Kelley.
UAB honored its nine senior players and two managers prior to Saturday's game, a group that has led the program to three 30-win seasons in the last four years.
Next up for the Green and Gold is the C-USA Championship, set to begin Wednesday at Pete Taylor Park on the campus of Southern Miss. Pairings and seeds will be announced later on Saturday.
