UAB Track and Field Opens Competition at Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The UAB track and field team opened competition at the Tennessee Relays on Thursday with the first four events of the heptathlon and the 10,000-meter run.
Shelby Barker led the Blazers in heptathlon events on Thursday with fourth-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. The senior rounded out her Thursday with a 1.55-meter (5-01 feet) leap in the high jump, finishing eighth.
Barker clocked a time of 14.64 in the 100-meter hurdles, while finishing the 200-meter dash in 25.53. Both were outdoor season bests for the Roswell, Ga. native.
Ali Meister posted a pair of 10-top finishes during heptathlon competition, leaping 1.55 meters (5-01 feet) to tie Barker for eighth in the high jump, while clocking an outdoor season-best time of 14.93 to finish 10th in the 100-meter hurdles.
Lauren Scott ran in the only women's distance event of the night, the 10,000-meter run, and finished in 15th with a time of 39:45.21.
The UAB track and field team returns to Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium for day two of the Tennessee Relays on Friday. The Blazers will begin competition in the heptathlon at 9 a.m. CT, and in individual events at 11:15 a.m. CT with the women's 400-meter hurdles.
