UAB SAAC Elects Executive Board

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held elections for the 2015-2016 Executive Board at their Monday evening meeting, with six student-athletes being named to various positions.
SAAC is a student-athlete group committed to providing a forum for student-athletes to express ideas, concerns and opinions relating to NCAA and Conference USA legislation as well as other issues that affect their well-being as student-athletes.
The Executive Board is responsible for promoting a positive student-athlete image on campus and in the community, disseminating information to team members of all UAB sports, and serving as leaders within the athletic department. This academic year, UAB student-athletes have completed nearly 2,000 hours of service in the Birmingham community under the direction of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The 2015-2016 UAB SAAC Executive Board is made up of the following student-athletes:
President: Catherine Ragon, Women's Tennis (2nd Term)
Vice President: Nick Norton, Men's Basketball
Board Member: Joanna Fallen, Softball (2nd Term)
Board Member: Jacob Armstrong, Baseball (2nd Term)
Board Member: Anna Mae Messisco, Sand Volleyball
Board Member: Maya Garland, Women's Basketball
"I am very excited about what this group of student-athletes will be able to accomplish over the course of the next year," said Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Development, Justin Mackey. "Each member of this group has exhibited our core characteristics of leadership, involvement and service and they will all continue to grow as they lead our program through the next year."
The Executive Board will begin their tenure with a meeting this summer to start planning for the upcoming academic year.
