Naile Named C-USA Pitcher of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB baseball RHP James Naile has been named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week following his dominant performance vs. No. 12 Rice, the league announced Monday.
Just a week after throwing a complete game with a career-high nine strikeouts at Southern Miss in a 7-2 victory, Naile dominated the league's leader in offense, tossing seven hitless innings vs. the Owls.
He struck out eight hitters and walked just three in the shutout, sparking a solid weekend for the Blazers, who took the series vs. Rice for the first time since 2011. Naile is 6-for-9 in quality starts this season, leads the league in innings pitched (63.0), opposing batting average (.195) and is third in ERA (1.71).
Naile is the first UAB player to receive a player of the week award this season, and is the Blazers' fifth C-USA Pitcher of the Week over the last two seasons (Chase Mallard won it four times in 2014).
The Blazers return to action Tuesday night at Alabama at 6 p.m. at the Hoover Met.
