Series History
UAB and Kennesaw meet this weekend for the first time since the 2012 season. The Owls lead the series, 8-5, and the Blazers have dropped two-straight to KSU.
The last meeting came on April 24, 2012 at Young Memorial Field when the Owls were victorious, 8-3. The two squads also met earlier that season, with KSU taking the win, 7-3, in Kennesaw.
Scouting The Opponent
Kennesaw State was picked as the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Sun crown, and three Owls -- Travis Bergen, Kal Simmons and Alex Liguori -- were named to the preseason all-conference team.
The Owls have appeared in the top-25 and have received votes in multiple polls this season, but recently dropped out and are 6-4 overall on the year. KSU picked up wins over Liberty and St. John's to start the year, and have since defeated Mercer, Jacksonville State twice, and took one from UCONN in a series last weekend.
KSU's offense has posted more than 10 hits in five games this season, a squad that is hitting .275 on the year. Jeremy Howell has paced the Owls, hitting .387, while Brennan Morgan is batting at a clip of .367. Kennesaw State enters the series with 35 extra-base hits to its credit, including 21 doubles, two triples and 12 home runs through 10 contests.
The Owls carry a 3.24 team ERA into the weekend, led by starters Gabe Friese, Jordan Hillyer and Travis Bergen. Friese has a 2-1 record with a 1.80 ERA in 15.0 IP, Hillyer is 0-1 in 12.2 IP with a 2.84 ERA, while Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference Pitcher Bergen is 1-2 in 18.0 IP with a 3.50 ERA.
Blazers Top-15 In NCAA In Fielding Percentage, Double Plays
The Blazers have committed just five errors on the year and rank fifth in the nation in fielding percentage (.987). UAB turned seven double plays vs. Ohio State last weekend, and rank No. 12 in the NCAA in that category with 13 on the year.
