Student-Athlete Of The Week: Tyler Mims

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Redshirt senior Tyler Mims of the UAB baseball team was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Tuesday. The Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes who excel on and off their respective fields of competition.
The Hoover, Ala. native has played in nearly 150 games in his UAB career, and has been a leader for the program both on and off the field.
Mims has been one of UAB's top hitters thus far this season, batting at a clip at .284 with 13 RBI. He has been hot at the plate as of late, with five RBI and six hits in his last five contests. Mims has also been a staple of the Blazer defense, with a career fielding percentage of over .990.
In the classroom, Mims has been an outstanding student-athlete, maintaining a 3.93 GPA majoring in industrial distribution. He has earned the Conference USA Academic Medal each year while in Birmingham and is one of four fifth-year seniors on the UAB squad.
