BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Rachel Daniell of the UAB women's tennis team was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Monday. The Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes who excel on and off their respective fields of competition.
The Douglasville, Ga. native has four singles wins and seven doubles wins this spring. She has claimed all four singles wins at the top two spots, with two victories at No. 1 and two at No. 2.
She's paired with Catherine Ragon, Caroline Faught and Amy Lowther to combine for seven doubles wins, six at the No. 3 doubles spot. One of those wins came against No. 71 Samford on Feb. 7 paired with Ragon in a 7-5 defeat over the Bulldogs.
In the classroom, Daniell has been an outstanding student-athlete, maintaining a 3.93 GPA majoring in biology. She is just one of two UAB women's tennis players to earn Conference USA All-Academic Team honors, an achievement she accomplished in each of the last two years.
Daniell and the Blazers return to the courts this Thursday at home vs. Chattanooga at 1 p.m.
