BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB baseball team fell to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, 6-3, Tuesday afternoon at Regions Field.
The Blazers (6-1) put up a run in the first and two more in the sixth, but following a two-run second for the Bulldogs, they added single runs in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings to hand UAB its first loss of 2015.
"Good job by Alabama A&M," head coach Brian Shoop said. "They outhit us, they made less errors than us, they pitched better than us, they outplayed us and they deserved to win. Coach (Mitch) Hill has done a great job with that program and now I'd say every Division I program in our state can beat every Division I program in our state on a different night. Hats off to Alabama A&M, good job by them."
UAB totaled five hits with one each from Chase Davis, Nathan Vincent, Esteban Tresgallo, Matt Morse and Adam Smith. Davis was credited with an RBI, while UAB drew seven walks against the Bulldogs.
After taking the early 1-0 lead, the Blazers got within one run of the Bulldogs following the sixth after UAB's two-run frame.
Adam Lau got the sixth started with a walk and advanced to second on a balk. Tyler Mims also walked, before Morse put down a sacrifice bunt to setup runners at second and third for Smith. Lau came home to score on a wild pitch from pitcher Caleb Roberts, and Davis followed with a single to center to plate UAB's final run of the contest.
The Bulldogs' Brandyn Crutcher led the team with two RBI, while four other Bulldogs also drove in a run.
