BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB's men's tennis team dropped the doubles point and failed to rally as the Blazers fell to Samford, 5-2, in an afternoon dual match played at the Samford Tennis Center.
The Blazers (2-5), playing their first match since Feb. 8, were hoping to post their second straight victory after defeating Jacksonville State (4-1) in their last outing.
The Bulldogs (1-4) gained momentum early in the match with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles. UAB was a winner at No. 1 doubles as Mitchell Martell and Luiz Felipe Pinto downed the Samford duo of Trey Carter and Justin Ghavami, 6-4.
The Blazers knotted the match at 1-1 with a win by Christian Coetzee at No. 3 singles over Carter, 6-3, 6-4. UAB's only other singles victory came at No. 6 as Christopher Egan Morriss downed Jake Faundez, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Samford won the other three-setter as Austin Akers defeated UAB's Donovan McSeveney at the No. 2 spot, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.
