Men's Tennis Defeats Visiting Belmont, 4-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB's men's tennis team won the doubles point and then captured wins at three singles positions as the Blazers defeated visiting Belmont Sunday afternoon, 4-1, at the Lakeshore Tennis Center.
The Blazers (3-4) won doubles matches at the No. 2 and 3 spots to take a 1-0 advantage into singles play. Christian Coetzee and Donovan McSeveney downed Robin Demasse and Cedric Dujacquier by a 6-4 score at No. 2 doubles while Christopher Egan Morris and Trey McCombs teamed to down the Bruins' Caio Neil and Geoff Tulloch, 6-1, at No. 3.
UAB then won matches at the No. 3, 5 and 6 singles positions to clinch the victory.
Coetzee was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 3 over Belmont's Dujacquier. Stepan Vanurik defeated Bruno Russo, 7-6 (6), 6-1 at the No. 5 spot while Egan Morriss beat Belmont's Neil at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
The Bruins (5-5) posted their only win in the match with a win at No. 4 singles as Demassee edged the Blazers' Luiz Felipe Pinto, 2-6, 7-5, 10-3.
Play was halted at No. 1 and 2 singles once UAB sealed the win.
The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday when they play host to Stetson in a Noon CT match at Lakeshore Tennis Center.
