Men's Golf Finishes 10th At Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Junior Martin Rohwer and senior Paul Dunne each finished in the top-15 as the UAB men's golf team placed 10th at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The Blazers finished with a three-round total of 883 (+43).
"Overall we just didn't play well all week," head coach Alan Murray said. "We struggled in every aspect of the game. It was just one of those weeks. It was disappointing, but we just have to work harder."
UAB struggled in the final round carding a 298 (+18) on Sunday after posting a 295 (+15) and a 290 (+10) in the previous rounds.
"Paul (Dunne) played well today," Murray remarked. "He shot a 69 for the round, which is a very good score. Martin (Rohwer) played well all weekend. His last 10 holes today he struggled but apart from that he played super."
Dunne highlighted the day with a 1-under 69 in the final 18 holes of the tournament. The Greystones, Ireland native finished in a tie for 15th place overall at 5-over (74-72-69=215). He steadily improved each round, moving up eight spots Sunday.
Rohwer was the top finisher for UAB at 4-over (66-71-77=214). He was tied for first heading into the final day, but recorded a 77 (+7) in the final round to fall into a tie for 11th. Freshman Lee Hodges scored a 73(+3) in the third round to total 226 (+16) and finish tied for 51st.
Juniors Ryan Davies and Will Cannon each carded a 79 (+9) Sunday. Davies finished in a tie for 62nd at 229 (+19) and Cannon tied for 65th with a 232 (+22) through the tournament.
"We have to work really hard and improve in time for our next tournament," Murray stated. "We have the John Hayt Invitational in about two weeks, which will be a really good field."
The Blazers will have a week off before they travel to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. for the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational Feb. 27-March 1.
