UAB Seventh After Two Rounds At Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Junior Martin Rohwer is in a tie for first place to lead the UAB men's golf team at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Saturday. The Blazers are in seventh place after the first two rounds in Gainesville, Fla.
"The course and conditions were really difficult today," head coach Alan Murray said. "Overall, we didn't play well and made a lot of mistakes but it is a tough test and if you are not on your game the golf course really tests you."
UAB finished with a 585 (+25) through the first 36-holes. The Blazers fired a 290 (+10) in the second round to move up two spots into seventh on the day after starting the day with a 295 (+15) in the first 18 holes at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Rohwer had a great first round, carding a 4-under 66 to open the day with six birdies. He remained solid in the second round with a 1-over 71 to lead the Blazers with a 137 (-3) for the day and be tied for the lead heading into the final round.
"Martin (Rohwer) played exceptional golf and is tied for the lead individually," Murray stated. "He shot 66 and 71, which was excellent. He played superb all day. All five members of UAB's lineup performed well in the second round.
Senior Paul Dunne recorded a 72 (+2) on the second 18 to move up 13 spots into a tie for 23rd with a 6-over 146 on the day. He scored a 74 (+4) in the first round and finished with five birdies on the day.
Junior Ryan Davies picked up eight spots on the second half of the day to sit in a tie for 48th. Davies carded a 3-over 73 in the second round after a 77 (+7) in the first round to total 150 (+10).
Freshman Lee Hodges and junior Will Cannon each finished with a two-round total of 153 (+13) to be in a tie for 60th. Hodges carded a 4-over 74 and Cannon finished with a 75 (+5) in the second round.
Freshman Taylor Eyster entered individually but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
"The guys gave their all and their attitude was superb," Murray remarked. "We just need to execute better tomorrow. The guys are going to rest up tonight and get after it again tomorrow."
