Kuzmanic Named C-USA Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –UAB freshman guard Deanna Kuzmanic has been named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. It is Kuzmanic’s first C-USA Freshman of the Week honor this season.
The Wheeling, Ill., native recorded her ninth game in double figures this season on Dec. 21 versus Samford. Kuzmanic scored 14 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. She also added eight rebounds and three blocks as UAB cruised to victory 61-41 over the Bulldogs.
Kuzmanic's performance against Samford underlined what has been a remarkable run for the Blazer newcomer. In eleven games this season, Kuzmanic is averaging 13.2 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per contest and has knocked down 30 treys. The 5-foot-9 guard also leads the team with 13 steals.
UAB will begin Conference USA action Jan. 3 against Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The Conference USA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships are set to return to Birmingham for the second consecutive year, marking the third time the Blazers will host the event. The men's tournament, as well as the women's semifinals and championship, will be played at Legacy Arena in downtown Birmingham, while the women's first round and quarterfinal action will take place at UAB's Bartow Arena.
