BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team welcomes Alabama State to Bartow Arena Tuesday for the Blazers’ final non-conference match of the regular season.
First serve from Bartow is slated for 7 p.m. CT.

UAB Notes
Schroer, Deshotel
Juniors Gabby Deshotel and Emma Schroer used outstanding performances last weekend to etch their names in UAB’s single-season record book.
Coming off back-to-back matches with 20 or more kills, Deshotel has totaled 474 kills, the 10th-highest mark in a single season at UAB and the most by any Blazer since 2006. The
Schroer continues to be UAB’s top defender with 481 digs, the eighth-best mark in program history.
Series History
Tuesday’s battle with
Last season, UAB downed Alabama State in non-conference action by a 3-1 final as UAB cruised to a season-high .427 attack percentage. The Blazers also matched their season-best 56 kills in four-set matches.
Gabby Deshotel was one of three Blazers to chip in double-digit kills for UAB as the outside hitter totaled 13. Gabbi Moreno ran the offense at setter, dishing out 30 helpers and adding two kills.
Scouting the Opposition
After starting the season with a rough 1-6 start, Alabama State has turned the season around to enter Tuesday’s contest 15-13 overall.
The Hornets saw their eight-match win streak come to an end last Monday as Jackson State edged out Alabama State, 3-2. Alabama State is coming off a 3-2 victory over Alabama A&M last Friday.
The Hornets’ offense is evenly spread with six attackers tallying 100 or more kills. Rachel Smith leads the crew with 207 kills and 29 aces. Smith also leads the Hornets in aces with 29. Kori Kutsch and Riley MacDonald split time serving as Alabama State’s setter with Kutsch holding a slight advantage with 474 assists.
