Blazers Five Shots Back After Second Round

PRINCEVILLE, Kaua'i - Taylor Eyster fired a tournament-low 65 in the second round to lead the UAB men's golf team on day two of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational. 

Eyster shot a 7-under 29 on the back nine to help the Blazers leap into third place heading into the final day. 

"Taylor showed real grit and resolve to play his back in 29 today after a 44 yesterday, so he will take great pride in that," said UAB head coach Alan Murray. "He is developing into a real player and we are all really proud of him"

As a group, the Blazers shot the best round of any team in the second round with a 20-under 268. Alabama leads the event with a 36-hole total of 26-under 550, while Wake Forest sits two back at 24-under 552. UAB is five strokes behind going into the final round at Princeville Makai Golf Club.

"I'm really proud and pleased with the guys efforts today," said Murray. "We threatened having a really good round yesterday but let it slip, so to bounce back like we did today was really important. We have a chance to win going into the final round, but there are some excellent teams ahead of us so it will take another special round. I expect the guys will gain confidence after today's performance."

The Blazers have carded 45 birdies or better through two rounds. Tim Harry leads the team with a score of 9-under 135. The freshman shot a 4-under 68 first round and a 5-under 67 second round. Harry is in a tie for third with two other players, trailing Cameron Young of Wake Forest and Roy Cootes of Pepperdine by one shot.

Lee Hodges and Martin Rohwer both turned in rounds of 4-under 68. Hodges is at 6-under 138 through day two, four back of the leaders and in a tie for eighth. Rohwer is just outside the top-10 after his second consecutive round of even-par or better.

Will Cannon sits in a tie for 76^th after shooting a 2-over 74 on Tuesday.
