BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB men’s soccer junior defender Lars Willemse was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
The Veenendaal, Netherlands native has maintained one of top GPA’s on the team with a 3.603 mark as a marketing major. The defender has been named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll each year with the program.
The junior has been a consistent lead on the UAB backline throughout his career at UAB, tallying seven assists and one goal.
This season, Willemse started all but one contest with over 1,100 minutes of playing time. The junior tallied two assists and seven shots from the defender position.
“Lars has been a top-class athlete and a great student as well,” said men’s soccer head coach Mike Getman. “He is exactly the kind of student-athlete we want in our program. I am very pleased to see he is being recognized for his ability on and off the field.”
